Good morning! Well, America finally knows who our new president will be, and I don’t know about you but I’m just glad this election is over. It’s sad and quite honestly shocking to see the worst side of some people come to light over politics, especially on social media. Since we live overseas, my husband and I had to send in our absentee votes a few weeks ago. It’s hard to be in a time zone six hours ahead (nine if you live on the west coast) when something this important is happening. On the flip side, I was able to sleep all night and since the election was still in full swing when I woke up, I didn’t really miss anything. Regardless of which candidate we each voted for, let’s just hope for a positive outcome for our country (and a little more kindness towards each other wouldn’t hurt either!)Our weekend in Venice was so much fun, but unfortunately we didn’t have the best weather (the fall season tends to be pretty wet in Italy). Luckily, I packed my suitcase with warm layers, a hat, and my trusty Hunter boots to help stay dry on the rainy days. You won’t see a ton of fall color in Venice, but these beautiful vines showed signs of the changing season. While exploring the side streets, we walked by the most adorable fall display outside a florist shop. Call me crazy but I just love ornamental cabbage–I always use it in my outdoor floral arrangements. This blanket scarf from SheIn is incredibly cozy and it combines two of my favorite colors: black and gray. Thanks to the generous size, you can wear it many different ways, including as a wrap. I should also mention it’s less than $15—a total steal!Hunter boots are definitely a little pricier than your average rubber boot, but totally worth the investment. Not only is the slimmer design more flattering than most rain boots, but they’re also extremely comfortable (I wore mine the entire day and my feet felt great). Hunters don’t just come in one style anymore, either: I’m currently coveting this ankle bootie and this wedge pair is ideal if you prefer a more refined look. Hunters are also great for snow days when you add some warm boot socks—I own this pair in gray.
I can’t forget to include a photo of Venice’s signature pastry and arguably my favorite Italian treat to date: zaletti. We tried quite a few while we were there and this little pasticceria had the best ones: most zaletti are hard and filled with raisins, but these were cake-like and full of chocolate chunks (so good I stopped there every day—by the end of our trip, the lady working there knew what I was going to order before I asked!) Thank you all for reading and I’ll be back on Friday with my last post from our trip!
