As a diehard denim lover, I’m always up for trying new trends each season. This spring we can expect to see a major comeback in vintage styles like wide leg, bootcut/flare, and loose fit 90’s-inspired fits. While we’ve seen all of these styles before, the key difference for 2022 is a high rise waistline (thank goodness, because it’s much more flattering!)

Bootcut
Featured Style: Citizens of Humanity ‘Libby’ (TTS; wearing 25)
If you’re looking to lengthen your legs, a pair of bootcut denim will instantly do the trick. The one I’m featuring is a beautiful mid-dark wash and the length is perfect for wearing with a low heel without hemming (I’m 5’4″ for reference).

Loose Fit/90’s Inspired
Featured Style: Levi’s Dad jean (TTS; wearing 25)
If you’re skeptical about whether a loose fit can look flattering, I promise you it’s possible to achieve! The trick to is to choose one with a very high rise and a relaxed fit in the thighs. This style from Levi’s meets the criteria exactly, and one of my other all-time favorite denim brands, AGOLDE, makes a style called the ’90’s loose fit’ that’s also amazing and I wear often. Pair loose styles with a fitted top like a bodysuit to show off the nipped-in waistline and balance out the looser bottom portion.

Wide Leg
Featured Style: Citizens of Humanity ‘Franca’ (runs large; wearing 24)
Wide leg jeans are similar to the 90’s styles but the leg opening is wider, while 90’s fits have a slight taper at the end. Like 90’s styles, wearing wide leg jeans with a fitted or cropped length top will prevent your figure from getting overwhelmed by the exaggerated leg.
