As a mom of two young children, I often find myself thinking of ways I can put together stylish outfits that are also practical for my daily life. Like a lot of other mommas out there, you’ll find me wearing comfy clothing and shoes on most days. That doesn’t mean outfits have to be boring though: there are small ways I like to elevate my basics and I’ll be sharing them below for any other mommas out there who also want to shake up their wardrobe.
Embrace Comfortable (On-Trend) Footwear
I’ve always loved heels and still enjoy wearing them when I have the opportunity. However, flats just make more sense for me most days. While I’ve fully embraced flat and low-heeled footwear, that doesn’t mean frumpy—there are plenty of options like this that are stylish and comfy. A few of my favorites I’ve styled below are New Balance sneakers, combat boots, Ugg boots and Birkenstocks (lots of on-trend styles here).

Elevate Your Basics
As a mom, there are some basics I reach for every day, such as tee shirts and leggings. It’s totally fine to go the comfortable route, but if you want to feel like you put a little more effort into your outfit, try elevating your basics. Instead of plain black cotton leggings, wear a faux leather pair such as one of these. Trade in your sweatpants for a pair of cashmere joggers or wide leg knit pants. You’ll still be comfy but the look will be a lot more polished.

Use Accessories to Add Polish
Accessories are the final touches that can make a big impact on your outfit. Even if you’re wearing a simple white tee and black leggings, a polished handbag will instantly make the look more chic. I always rely on hats (this is my favorite brand), sunglasses and handbags to bring my looks together (and sometimes I’ll even build my outfit around them). An added bonus for busy moms? Sunglasses hide tired eyes and hats cover unwashed hair!

Mix Casual & Dressier Pieces
Don’t be afraid to mix casual and dressier pieces—the juxtaposition of the two can be very stylish. I love throwing my Max Mara coat on over a sweatsuit or wearing a blazer with ripped jeans and sneakers.
