Postpartum can be an awkward stage when it comes to getting dressed. Your body is constantly changing and while maternity clothes aren’t necessary, your old clothes may still not fit. Since having my baby during the summer this time around, I’ve found a few key clothing styles that have worked really well and I’ve felt confident wearing for the transition (and they’ll work for anyone, postpartum or not!)
3 Postpartum-Friendly Clothing Styles to Wear During Summer
Paperbag Shorts
Paperbag shorts like one of these pairs are a great option for postpartum style since the waist is typically elastic and stretch is more accommodating. While most of my old shorts are still a little snug, I can wear paperbag shorts comfortably. The denim pair shown below from Frame (shop the brand here) has been my favorite this summer.

Loose Dresses
It probably seems obvious, but loose-fitting dresses or those with a flowy fit are the most forgiving in terms of postpartum style—and they happen to be very chic! There’s nothing to cling to your midsection so they’re much more comfortable.

Compression & Shaping Bike Shorts
If you’re like me and going through postpartum during the summer months, I recommend high waist, smoothing bike shorts instead of leggings if you want extra support for your midsection. During the first few weeks after having Jules, I lived in this super high compression pair from Belly Bandit. My current favorite pair is the girl short from BLANQI, a brand that’s well-know for their innovative maternity and postpartum supportwear. You can wear bike shorts in a casual way with an oversized tee and sneakers or dress them up like I did below with a button down shirt and slides. They’re actually pretty versatile!
