When it comes to maternity clothing, I typically don’t like to spend a lot of money on anything I won’t be wearing very long. However, I do think investing in flattering wardrobe staples like quality maternity jeans and leggings is a smart idea since they’ll get plenty of wear and you’ll feel confident in them (you can always sell them at a consignment store after pregnancy!) This post is a roundup of the maternity staples I wore most during my pregnancy and what I highly recommend if you’re looking for a few high quality pieces.
Maternity Clothing Worth the Investment
DENIM
HATCH maternity boyfriend jeans – These jeans are pricey but if you love distressed denim and only invest in one pair, I promise you’ll wear them nonstop. They’re also great for year-round wear; I wore mine with ankle booties during the winter.
Paige maternity straight leg jeans – Even though straight leg jeans are all the rage right now, it’s so hard to find a decent maternity pair. This style from Paige is absolute perfection and wearing them made me feel like my pre-pregnancy self.
LEGGINGS
Spanx ‘Look at Me Now’ leggings – I’ve tried many pairs of basic black maternity leggings through the course of my two pregnancies and Spanx brand is my favorite: flattering fit, perfect ankle length and completely opaque.
Spanx faux leather mama leggings – If you want something a bit edgier than a basic black legging, this faux leather pair is a must-have, especially if you’re going to be pregnant during fall and winter (I wore mine at least 4 times a week!) They have the exact same look as the regular Spanx faux leather legging but with a comfy full belly panel that grows with you.
ATHLETIC WEAR
Plush joggers– I LIVED in these fleece-lined joggers all winter. They’re incredibly cozy and warm and I liked wearing them with the belly panel folded over. They’re also available here in regular, non-maternity sizes.
BLANQI girl shorts – If you’re going to be pregnant in the summer, I cannot recommend these bike shorts enough. Not only are they super flattering, but the belly panel features BLANQI’s signature compression support. I did a full blog post here about how to style them if you’re interested.
DRESSES
NOM maxi dress – This little black dress is the only one you’ll need during pregnancy since it’s so incredibly flattering and versatile. It’s so easy to dress up or down, making it appropriate for any place you choose to wear it. The style is form-fitting but in the best way—I’m not usually a fan of bodycon dresses but this one makes me feel like a million bucks!
