If you give me a choice between trendy or classic jewelry, I’ll choose classic every time, but it hasn’t always been that way. I used to buy lots of costume jewelry that would eventually turn colors or go out of style, and ultimately I would end up giving it away. I started collecting gold jewelry when we lived in Jordan a few years ago because it’s very plentiful and affordable there. I focused on classic pieces like hoop earrings and rings that I now wear every day and have never looked back. On occasions where I’m getting dressed up or going to a party (usually around the holidays), I may wear a fun pair of costume earrings, but other than that it’s either gold hoops or diamond studs. I’m a firm believer you can never have too many gold hoops and recently purchased my first pair of huggie earrings, which I’m wearing in the above photo—and pssst, they’re affordable! I’ll share more details below.Gold hoop earrings are definitely my weakness. They go with any outfit and can easily be dressed up or down. I wear all of these often but the two I wear most are the plain mid-sized pair (top right) and the small interlocking pair just below them. If you’re looking to build a hoop collection, this is a great set to start:14K gold and under $70 for a set of three. If you’re looking to build a collection of classic jewelry but on a budget, I highly recommend considering gold vermeil. It has the look of pure gold but it’s actually gold-plated silver, which makes it considerably less expensive. Both of the earrings shown above are gold vermeil and were around $150/pair. AURATE jewelry is a fantastic shopping source because they offer gold vermeil as an option in nearly all of their pieces. Their 14K and 18K gold jewelry is also fairly priced and much less expensive than traditional retail, so I highly recommend checking out their site.Shown above are the rings I wear every day: my wedding rings and the thick rose gold ring I was given as a gift when Lila was born. It has a removable diamond band; sometimes I’ll wear them together or add the diamond band to my wedding stack (it’s the one in the middle). The thin stackable rings are 14K rose gold and were purchased from AURATE. I definitely want to add a few more to this stack. This snake ring, rose gold cuff bracelet and diamond studs were purchases from Jordan that I absolutely love and wear often. The snake ring is the most unique piece I own and my go-to for date nights or just wearing when I want to feel badass! If you also love serpent jewelry, this ring is a show-stopping collector piece and this snake ring is an affordable option at under $20.I’d love to know your thoughts on trendy versus classic jewelry or a favorite piece from your own collection so be sure to leave a comment below.
