I love decorating for Christmas inside our home but this is the first year I’ve also spent time on the outside. As many of you know, we live in a very old farmhouse. Our porch is only a few feet wide and we never used it for anything other than our shoe dumping ground until my husband decided to clean it up a few months ago, allowing me some space to decorate. I was skeptical it would last, but so far we’ve been able to keep it clean! Even if the other side of the porch is chaotic, having this little corner to display seasonal decor brings me a lot of happiness. In this post, I’ll be walking you through how I decorated it for Christmas using my favorite Luminara candles, a few inexpensive finds from Michael’s, flea market furniture and some clippings from our yard. Luckily, our yard is full of natural Christmas decorations so I take full advantage! I cut some sprigs of cypress, holly, Nandina berries, and blue spruce to fill a few old metals buckets and tuck inside my lanterns. I used a few flea market tables in various heights to display everything.
I love miniature Christmas trees because you can basically use them anywhere. I dropped a few of them in these inexpensive metal pails from Michael’s and added strands of battery-operated lights for a festive vibe. Let me tell you about my love for these battery lights: they have a 4-hour automatic timer and lend a magical glow to anything. I have them everywhere in our house during Christmas.Luminara candles are the most realistic flameless ones you’ll find on the market and these lanterns are perfect to display year-round (and they’re designed for indoor/outdoor use). The dark green cedar garland wrapped around this lantern is faux but I added fresh berries and cypress stems to liven it up.Believe it or not, my husband crafted this beautiful wreath for our door without any input from me! He took a plain grapevine wreath and added some sprigs from the yard along with a few antlers from his hunting adventures. When it comes to decorating, I never really have a set plan for what I’m going to do each time. My biggest tip is to just keep adding, adjusting and rearranging until you like how it looks—and most importantly, have fun!
