I love a good pair of denim shorts but when it comes to finding the perfect fit I’m extremely picky. After much trial and error, I’ve found that shorts with a high waist like this tend to be the most flattering (and leg-lengthening). Luckily I’ve found some great new styles this season so I wanted to share all of them in one place. You can shop each pair I feature below the images and I also linked the rest of the pieces I’m wearing in each look. Levi’s 501 mid-thigh short – I saw these on a few of my favorite fashion influencers and loved how they looked, but wasn’t sure if I’d like them since I’m on the petite side. However, they are AMAZING. Usually longer shorts can look frumpy (especially when you’re short), but somehow this pair has a way of lengthening your legs and making them look so slim. I immediately ordered the same fit in black (shown below) and this new distressed blue pair that just came out.

Here are the same Levi’s mid-thigh shorts in black—I love the edgy distressing and they look so good with heels. I’d add a blazer to this look for fall.

Madewell ‘Mom shorts’ – These may be my favorite shorts purchase of the summer. They have a high rise but the legs are loose-fitting and longer in the back, which makes them both comfortable and flattering.

H&M denim paperbag shorts – Give me anything with a paperbag waist and I guarantee I’ll love it. Trust me when I tell you anything with a paperbag waist will make your waist look tiny (shop lots of other paperbag waist styles here). I had originally ordered a similar but much pricier style of shorts and returned those to keep this $35 pair that fit so much better. Sadly, they’re almost sold out, but you can shop more similar paperbag shorts here. These shorts are a little more polished so they’re easy to dress up with heels.

AGOLDE ‘Dee’ shorts – I’ve had these for a few years now and still love them. They do have an extreme high waist, so if you don’t like your shorts to come up too high, you may want to size up. I personally appreciate how they hold everything in and have a longer inseam, but the distressing still makes this momma feel ‘cool’ ha. AGOLDE has become my favorite brand for vintage-style jeans and if you love these shorts, browse more of their denim here.

Blank Denim ‘Mom’ shorts – These have a high waist but it’s more of a mid-high rise (falls just below my belly button). This classic dark wash is easy to dress up with a blazer and heels while the 4-inch inseam strikes the perfect balance between short and long.
