Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas for Casual or Formal Celebrations

November 8, 2019

After Halloween, it’s hard not to get swept up right into Christmas, but let’s not forget about Thanksgiving! Whether your plans include a low-key dinner with family or you’re going out for a more formal meal, I rounded up my favorite fall outfits to make you feel festive for the occasion. As you’re looking in your closet for what to wear, consider shades of brown, olive, burgundy and burnt orange for an autumnal vibe. All of these outfits can be dressed up or down depending on footwear (most of the time I wear heels for my blog posts because they photograph better!)You can never go wrong by adding a cozy plaid scarf to your look (this one is only $12 and comes in lots of colors). For more ideas on how to wear a blanket scarf, check out my most popular blog post here.

Keep it monochrome and layer up in the same shade family—camel is always my favorite for monochromatic fall looks.

For a color palette that’s a little more unexpected, choose burgundy as your focal piece. I love pairing wine and deep red colors with brown or gray.

One combo I’ve always loved for fall is a fitted knit dress under an oversized cardigan. Accessorize with a wool hat and plaid scarf to bump it up a notch.

Nothing is more classic for Thanksgiving dinner than a crisp white blouse: add an olive cardigan to add a pop of color and tie it together.

If you’re going for cozy but still want to look polished, this outfit is for you. A chunky sweater worn over a pleated skirt is equal parts comfy and chic (leave your sweater untucked to make room for all the Thanksgiving goodies!)

A cream cable knit sweater is arguably the most timeless there is, so if you don’t already own one, it’s time to be added to your wardrobe. Wear it with dark or light denim and brown suede boots for a look that’s always stylish.
