If you’ve ever shopped the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, you already know how overwhelming it can be since there are SO MANY options in each category. I’ve noticed that a lot of people want to know about the best fall basics, especially styles for those on a budget. I spent hours combing through the sale yesterday to find pieces that won’t break the bank AND you can mix and match for literally hundreds of different outfits. Everything in this post is under $100 and most are actually under $50. Most importantly, they’re all in stock (it’s crazy how fast products have been selling out!) My package of sale goodies is supposed to arrive today so I hope to post my try-on photos tomorrow. Don’t forget that the sale opens to the public this Friday, 7/19, so save your favorites now. Happy shopping!
Hats & Scarves
Accessories are the key to pulling any outfit together and making it unique. I get so much use from my hats and scarves in the fall–both for fashion and function–and neutral styles are the easiest to wear. They’re also the first thing I’ll add to my looks to give them a fall feel even when it’s still warm outside.
Cardigans
Cardigans are the one thing I just can NOT resist buying every year during the Nordstrom sale because there are always so many good options. I love throwing them over any outfit, whether it’s with shorts on a chilly summer night or over a tee and jean combo with booties in fall. I think long, open styles look the most chic and they’re also versatile: try wearing a wide belt with one over a fitted dress or leggings.

Tees
Whether worn alone or used for layering, tees are a must for your fall wardrobe. For a capsule wardrobe, I chose three different styles: a tunic for wearing with leggings, a basic all-around v-neck, and a fitted style for wearing under cardigans and jackets.
Jeans & Leggings
If you’re on a budget, these bottoms will fit the bill for all of your fall looks. A dark wash skinny jean is flattering and works with any type of boot, flares elongate your legs and lend a vintage vibe to cardigans or leather jackets, and faux leather leggings are perfect for dressing up or down with your tunic sweaters. And this legging is the BEST of them all since they smooth you out and make your bum look awesome (they rarely ever go on sale by the way!) I own this exact pair and wear them to pieces in fall and winter. You can read about them more on this blog post about my favorite leggings.
Booties
Every woman needs three types of booties in her fall wardrobe: a taupe suede, tan/cognac suede and black leather. Neutral colors like these will complement any outfit you wear so you’ll get the most bang for your buck. I own the second pair in a near-identical style that has a higher heel and they’re super comfy so I know these would be, too!
