How to Rock a Colorful Handbag for Summer
Normally, my style is pretty neutral; occasionally I’ll wear a colorful top or skirt/pants, but for the most part I stick to muted shades. When Brahmin graciously offered to send me this bright yellow handbag from their summer collection, I figured I’d have to get pretty creative. That’s why I’m so surprised by how many outfits I’ve already created around it and how easy it’s been to incorporate some color into my wardrobe. I thought it’d be fun to share some of my tips for rocking a bright bag this summer—would you carry one? Let me know what your favorite color is in the comments!
Make it Monochrome
Usually I’d say the complete opposite, but my first recommendation for rocking a colorful bag build your outfit around it. With a monochrome outfit like all-white or all-black, a bright colored bag will really stand out. For maximum impact, keep clothing colors to a minimum and let your accessory do the talking.

Wear a Coordinating Print
Complement the bright bag you carry (in this case, yellow) by choosing printed clothing that has the same shade. I’ve had fun doing this with the pretty ruffled skirt above and when I coordinated outfits with Lila for Mother’s Day.

Pair it With a Match from the Color Wheel
If you want to branch out a bit, try pairing your colorful bag with a complementary color from the color wheel. If you draw a balanced triangle on the wheel starting from the color of your bag, where the other two points touch will be its matching colors. In my case, yellow touches red and blue—I haven’t worn this particular bag with red but I do love how it’s looked with navy and light blue.
