There’s only one problem for me when it comes to wearing leggings: once I put them on, it’s hard to wear any other type of pants. Who doesn’t want to wear something that feels like a second skin though, especially when they suck everything in and make your legs look nice and lean? I’ve tried many leggings over the years and today I’m sharing my favorite, most flattering brands for high waist styles (plus this new brand I have my eye on!)
Spanx
If you’re a leggings lover, chances are that you’ve already heard of Spanx. If you’re going to invest any amount of money in leggings, you should definitely start with this brand because of how flattering and high quality their leggings are. Somehow, they have the magical capability to smooth everything out and make every body type look tight and toned.
I own several pairs of Spanx but the faux leather is my favorite. The material has a really luxe look but since it isn’t too shiny, these leggings can be worn with basically anything (I’ve even worn mine with cowboy boots!)

These gray velvet leggings are also from Spanx. I purchased them during the holiday season for a dressier legging option but they’re great for winter, too. They’re so soft that I’ve literally had friends pet my legs just to feel the material, ha! I also ended up getting the burgundy color because I loved this pair so much.
I like to think of the velvet leggings as my ‘dressy pair’ so if you need leggings for a party or to wear in the workplace, I would recommend the classic black velvet!

Good American
Good American is the new brand I mentioned I had my eye on for my next pair of high waist leggings. If you haven’t heard of them, this brand was founded by Khloé Kardashian and offers a size range from XS up to 4X, so there’s something to fit every body type. I love that their leggings are available in fun prints that are ideal for wearing to the gym or on casual days, all with a flattering high rise silhouette. I’m especially obsessed with the leopard print and thinking that’s the first pair I need! Here are my favorites (you can click on any image to shop):
Zella
I bought my first pair of Zella leggings years ago during a Nordstrom sale and fell in love. My first pair was low rise but since having Lila, I prefer high waist pants because I just feel more comfortable wearing them. The pair I’m wearing here is the ‘Live In’ high rise legging. The other cool thing about these leggings is that you can turn them inside out and they have a shinier side.
I think of styles like this as my ‘sporty leggings’ and like to wear this pair with sneakers, although you can totally get away with boots as well.
