Exploring the Less-Traveled Areas of Wadi Rum

January 14, 2019

If you were to ask me what my favorite place is in Jordan, the answer would undoubtably be Wadi Rum. The landscape is so incredible it almost doesn’t seem real and it always blows me away. We wanted to make one final trip down there before we move back to the U.S. in a few months and this time, one of the Bedouin families my husband knows took us on a tour of some of the less traveled areas in the desert. We got to see some beautiful spots in the less touristy areas and basically had the place to ourselves since it’s winter.Lila wasn’t in the best mood for photos when we got to this spot but once we set her down, she was instantly happy to take off toddling through the sand. She just started full-on walking a few weeks ago and loves any chance to explore new places on foot.Be on the lookout for this bridge in the upcoming remake of the movie ‘Aladdin’, which stars Will Smith as the genie (I can’t wait to watch!)Our second stop on the tour was this panoramic view. Talk about an amazing location for photos—I felt like I was on top of the world looking out over the desert. This dune looked so soft and smooth, it almost made me want to jump in! Most of the sand on the North side of the desert is red, which is why a lot of movies about Mars such as ‘The Martian’ are filmed here.We were rewarded with a breathtaking sunset at the end of the day. We’ve seen some pretty sunsets in Wadi Rum but never one this vivid—Mother Nature was definitely putting on a show for us!
