If you caught Monday’s blog post, I mentioned I wasn’t making New Year’s resolutions for 2019. I usually never keep resolutions and ultimately feel like a failure, so this time I want to set some goals for myself instead.
My Personal Goals for 2019
Blog:
Stop comparing myself to others.
This is much easier said than done when you’re constantly on social media, but I’m making it my goal to try my best to focus on my own life and appreciate what I have. I constantly have to remind myself that what I see online is just a tiny snippet of someone’s life (mine included). And Instagram…I’m trying to let that frustration go, too! I love Instagram for watching other people’s stories and sharing my own, but the business side of it isn’t much fun anymore. It seems to have become purely “pay to play” with this app, forcing users to promote their posts in order for them to be seen. Of course it bothers me because as an influencer, I put a lot of time and thought into what I share. I just have to ask myself, does the number of followers I have really have a direct impact on my personal life? Maybe it does if you’re something with 500K + followers, but in my case it doesn’t.
Health:
Take Lila for daily walks as often as possible.
Although I work out on my own 5-6 days per week, it’s always when she’s napping and I hardly ever take her out anymore. I want her to know how important exercise is to stay healthy and it’s never too early to start.
Beauty:
Drink spearmint tea to clear up my skin.
Helena Hodne (she writes the chic NYC-based blog Brooklyn Blonde) has influenced me to start drinking spearmint tea after seeing so much praise for it on her Instagram stories. I began drinking it regularly about a week ago and I’m aiming to have one cup per day, so here’s hoping for clear skin soon. Here is her blog post about it if you’re interested in reading.
Personal:
Read one book a month.
In all honesty, this goal is probably going to be the toughest for me to achieve. I hardly ever sit down to read anymore because once Lila goes to bed, I’m always mentally exhausted and end up watching TV or surfing on my iPad/phone. But I’ve loved to read since I was a little girl and I really want to make it a habit again. Send me the names of any good books you’ve been reading so it will help encourage me to keep going!
New Challenge:
Learn how to raise chickens.
Yes, you read that correctly! We are moving back to Virginia in March and should have the space for them, plus my hubby is on board to help me get started. Not only will it be amazing to have our own fresh eggs, but chickens are supposed to be like pets if you raise them. For now, I’ve been learning how to care for them from reading books and watching videos we’ve found on Amazon Prime, so stay tuned to see how this develops!
