As 2018 comes to a close, I’ve been thinking about the past year and looking forward to what’s ahead for 2019. To me, the word ‘resolution’ can sound negative because it implies there’s something you need to change about yourself or your life. While there’s plenty of truth to that and I have a long list of things I need to work on, I think we all can agree that we probably already beat ourselves up enough most of the time with the comparison game, especially when you’re a blogger and spend lots of time on social media. That’s why I’m choosing to set goals instead of resolutions for myself this year (which I’ll be sharing on a separate blog post!)2018 may have been my most important year yet in terms of personal growth. At first I thought, “Oh, it’s just another year that’s passed,” but then I realized how significant it really was: this was my first entire year as a new mother! Lila completely changed our lives and my husband and I have both learned so much during this parenthood journey—the learning curve definitely won’t be stopping anytime soon either! I’ve had to learn how to juggle a whole lot more with my new role as a mom and sometimes I honestly feel like my head is barely above water. But as Dory the fish from Finding Nemo would say, I tell myself “Just keep swimming!”
As far as what I’m looking forward to in 2019? I’m so excited to share the news that we’re moving back to the U.S. in March! After four years spent living overseas (the first two in Rome and the last two in Amman), we are thrilled to be going back home to Virginia. The older I get, the more important family and traditions mean to me, and I can’t wait for Lila to be able to grow up surrounded by our loved ones. What are your thoughts on the new year? Are you setting goals or making resolutions—maybe even both? Happy New Year and as always, thank you so much for your support!
