The Fourth of July is a holiday I’ve grown to love more and more over the years, and living away from home has helped me realize how much I appreciate America. Although it’s fun to have cookouts and watch fireworks, I try to remember the real reasons why Americans should celebrate our nation’s birthday and the sacrifices made over the centuries to ensure we have a free society. The 4th represents freedom and liberty, not just for Americans, but for the whole world. It’s always fun to dress festively for the Fourth, and red, white and blue happens to be one of my favorite color combinations for summer. I’ve had this patriotic striped shirt for over ten years (crazy, I know), and love it even more now—to see how I wore it casually, check out last year’s post here. Speaking of holidays, yesterday was also one for Rome: the Festa di San Pietro e Paolo (St. Peter and Paul), a Catholic holiday observed by Italians on June 29th. Many Romans took advantage of the holiday to head for the beach, so it was pretty quiet in the city. Since my husband and I both had the day off from work as well, we went out in the morning to take photos and spent the rest relaxing at home.My fiery red tote from Brahmin was the perfect addition to this patriotic look, tying it all together with a bright splash of color. My colorful shirt and bag take center stage for this outfit, so I kept the rest of the look minimal with white culottes and nude sandals.Since Independence Day is on Monday, I’ll be taking a break to spend it with my husband and will have a new blog post on Tuesday. Wishing my American readers a safe and happy holiday weekend, and as always, thank you all so much for reading!
