Different trends from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s are making a comeback, but one that has appeared throughout the decades is the denim skirt. There’s really nothing new about this closet staple, but the tricks for pulling one off are a little different now from years past. Today, I’m sharing a few simple tips for styling denim skirts in a modern way, as well as a list of my favorites which you can shop below (most of which are on sale!)
Dress it up or down
Wearing casual basics like a tee shirt or button-down with a denim skirt can keep it from looking dated. I was drawn to the edginess of this distressed style, which I paired with a tied-up shirt and mule wedges to match its laid-back vibe. For an office setting, a pencil or wrap skirt without rips can be dressed up with a blouse and sleek pumps.
Change with the seasons
Wear them with breezy tops now through summer, and when fall arrives, simply add a slouchy sweater or leather jacket–even both–for an effortless layered look.
Choose the right footwear
Consider the type of skirt when deciding what shoes to wear. For pencil skirt styles, opt for pumps or lace-up heels to match the skirt’s sleek silhouette. Crisp white sneakers or Birkenstock-type sandals look street-style chic with an A-line mini. I especially love mules because they work with any type of denim skirt.
What are your thoughts on the return of denim skirts? I’d love to hear how you would wear one (and don’t forget to check out my picks below!)
