Today’s post comes from the snow-capped mountains around Campo Staffi, about two hours East of Rome. We woke up Saturday morning and decided to take a road trip to escape the city for a bit and see if we could find some snow. Our local friends had recommended this area of Italy for a wintery experience, but considering the fact it was nearly 70 degrees outside when we left the apartment, I was pretty doubtful we would see any white stuff. But lo and behold, after driving up the mountainside past the little town of Filettino, we literally turned a corner and there it was! We actually ended up at a ski resort (Campo Staffi), though there weren’t many people around since it hadn’t snowed very recently.
I only break out this hooded parka for serious winter weather, and up on the mountain the temperature was barely over 40 degrees accompanied by high wind, so this was the perfect opportunity.
I originally purchased these riding boots in black and loved them so much I jumped at the chance to snag a second pair in brown when they restocked my size; the silhouette is classic and streamlined–in my opinion, the ultimate riding boot!
The versatility of this tunic sweater has quickly made it one of my favorites: not only does it serve as a very warm layer underneath my coat, I can also wear it as a sweater dress for milder weather in Rome (see this post).
These snow-covered mountain peaks which served as my background are part of Monte Viglio, which sits on the border of Lazio and Abruzzo. I still can’t believe what a difference the elevation makes for weather patterns, though I guess I shouldn’t be surprised since we were almost at 6,000 feet compared to the ocean level in Rome (and now we know where to go in order to escape the summer heat!)
