Happy Thursday, everyone–we’re one day closer to the weekend! When we came to Milan in September for fashion week, I stopped by the Max Mara store on a whim and ended up trying on my dream camel coat, the ‘Manuela.’ I’ve always admired this coat for its timeless elegance–the design was born in the early 80’s and remains a classic today–and as soon as I wrapped it around me, I knew this investment piece would eventually end up in my closet, which happened within a few weeks after returning to Rome. I can’t praise this coat enough: the quality is unmistakable, the fit impeccable, and it is wonderfully warm thanks to the camelhair.
While Max Mara can be pricey, it’s worth considering the purchase if you happen to travel to Italy since they are made there, automatically making the prices much lower (and in the case of this coat, significantly so). During Saldi season, the twice-yearly sales events in January and July, you can also find incredible prices on luxury items (read more on this post). Also, please note that if you visit Italy as a tourist, you can receive a tax exemption of 14% on high-end purchases, which can be recouped at the airport when you depart–even more reason to shop here for lifetime pieces! For this look, I chose to play with proportions by pairing my coat with a mini skirt and thigh high boots. When I want to show a little more of what I’m wearing underneath, I’ll leave my coat open and loosely tie the belt behind me (or rather, my hubby does!); doing this also keeps the ends from getting caught in anything. Additionally, unlike most long coats, this one has a long back vent, making it easy to move in and sit down while wearing. Many of the items I am wearing are on sale today, so don’t forget to check the offers below! Also, Ann Taylor is currently holding their biggest sale of the fall season, with 50% off the entire store (excluding cashmere) and below you can see what I bought, as well as my other top picks. Thank you so much for reading!
