Hi there, and I hope your week has gotten off to a great start! There’s nothing quite as refreshing to me as a crisp autumn walk, and this winding off-road path full of golden color that we came across in Germany was so beautiful. It was a little breezy, and every time the wind blew through the trees a shower of leaves would start falling around us; my husband tried really hard to get some photos of them swirling through the air while he was taking my photos, but it proved to be much more difficult than anticipated (maybe if you squint hard enough, you’ll see a few in the background?!)
The weather was a little more chilly and damp than we expected during our trip, so I knew my Hunter boots were not going to cut it for any type of hiking or long walks that we had planned on taking. Fortunately, the town of Garmisch caters well to this climate with plenty of stores which offer all-weather type clothing and footwear, so I ended up going home with a new pair of insulated boots. Although they’re a little chunky, I think they’re actually kind of cute, and wearing them with a poncho and a polished bag also helped make this outfit a little more chic. Since I had been planning on adding a pair of ‘duck boots’ to my shoe collection, these were the perfect compromise because they are ideal for rainy or snowy weather. My husband joked that I must have conveniently ‘forgotten’ to pack the proper footwear so I had an excuse to go shopping, but I really just left my snow boots back in Virginia when we moved!Fun fact about the Aigle brand of boots I’m wearing: the French company has been in business since 1853, and was the FIRST company to use rubber as a core material for boots–talk about a claim to fame! The boots were originally used by farmers as the first pair to keep feet dry while working, but now they are used for all sorts of outdoor activities (like hiking in Germany!) About 95% of Aigle footwear is still handmade in France today, but you can purchase them around the world. One thing is for certain: these will definitely be my go-to pair for cold and wet winter weather conditions.
This was our view when we got to the top of the hill–you can just barely see the lodge off to the left where we stayed. The mountains are a lot taller than it seems from this photo, but heavy fog covered the peaks for most of the time we were there.I’ve had this camel poncho for at least seven years, and I am so glad I kept it since they have made such a comeback. The material is extremely soft and warm, making it the perfect final layer to throw on for especially chilly days.Have you rocked all-weather or ‘duck’ boots with any of your fall outfits? I’d love to hear how you’ve styled them!
