My husband’s cousin was here in Rome for a school trip, so on Friday night we took her to our neighborhood and had dinner at our favorite Sicilian spot. Besides that, we had a pretty low-key weekend, running errands around the city and keeping cool by getting gelato and hiding out in the A.C. during the hottest part of the days. Although the season doesn’t technically start for a few more weeks, it officially feels like summer here, with hot temperatures and afternoon storms nearly every day; in fact, we literally finished these photos and just barely made it back home before the skies opened up!

Linen fabric is always a great choice for keeping cool on sweltering days and that is why this Ikat print camisole I got last year from LOFT is one of my favorite summer tops. It’s always fun to incorporate bright color into black and white outfits, and I chose coral-orange to pair with this particular look. When I purchased my orange bag last month, I knew it would be great for summer, but I didn’t anticipate just how much mileage I would get from it. Not only does it coordinate with nearly everything and add an eye-catching hue to my outfits, the small size is just right for carrying day or night essentials. I love wearing it with navy blue, but it also really pops against this black and white top.  Speaking of orange, if you’ve ever been to Rome, you’ve probably seen many arancia trees along the streets, particularly in residential areas. Sometimes you’ll catch a pleasant citrus scent as you’re walking by, and while it may be tempting to pluck one of the fruits from the tree branches for a snack, don’t do it! One of our Italian friends pointed this out to us shortly after we arrived by picking one and opening it up to show us that they are all basically rotten inside and none of them are edible.
