Since our car arrived last week and practically everything in Rome is closed for Pasqua, we decided it would be the perfect time to take our first day trip out of the city. We didn’t have a destination in mind, but simply got in the car and headed for the countryside. We found ourselves in the medieval castle/town of Fornole where people still live today. The hilly streets lined with old stone buildings which overlooked panoramic views of the countryside were like something out of a fairy tale. We didn’t realize it until we looked at the map when we returned, but we had actually crossed states from Rome’s location in Lazio to Umbria. Apparently we weren’t too far from another old city either. Pretty much any direction you go will lead you to a village/castle/town steeped in ancient history and full of charming Italian scenery. Now that we know what’s in the area, we can’t wait to go back!
