Do you ever feel like shopping is similar to a conquest and you only ‘win’ when you finally snag the piece you’ve been coveting? This camel cape is one of those trophies that took some effort to get in my closet. It sold out quickly from H&M in the fall, but I checked the site daily and got lucky when they eventually restocked. The best tip I have for online shopping so you don’t miss out on your favorite items is to use the wishlist option on websites and check them frequently. Not only do wishlists help you keep track of your favorite pieces but you’ll also see if it goes on sale. You may even realize that you no longer love something as much as you originally did and can remove it from your list before experiencing buyer’s regret. And if anyone ever needs gift ideas, sharing your wish list is a quick and easy way to help them shop.
My favorite aspect about this cape is the versatility: it can be worn open or buttoned and dressed up or down (styled for a night out here). For this particular look, I created a neutral brown palette with a bit of burgundy to add color and warm up the earthy tones. If a cape is made of thick material like this boiled wool, it can also double as a jacket when worn over a chunky sweater. Despite temperatures in the mid 40s, I was comfortable all day wearing this exact outfit. If you’re on the fence about trying a cape or poncho, consider it an outerwear investment for your winter wardrobe!
