Today’s look incorporates three pieces that you can rest assured will never go out of style if they become part of your wardrobe: a plaid poncho, slim-fit turtleneck, and vintage style riding boots. Whenever I shop for items I plan on wearing many years, I choose clean, classic styles in the highest quality I am able to afford so they will last longer and rival trends that come and go. Don’t get me wrong, because I also love to try of-the-moment styles; I’m just not going to invest as much in them. Ponchos and capes are currently very popular, but they’ve also been around for a long time. I love the timeless appeal and unique details of any by Ralph Lauren. These riding boots are the reincarnation of a style Frye offered in the 1970’s and they’re still an ideal choice for their simple design and quality leather.
Turtlenecks are one of my favorite layering pieces for cold weather because they fit easily underneath bulkier items, add extra warmth, and keep the scratchiness of wool material at bay. To give my outfit a more festive feel and bring out the red in this plaid pattern, I added one in crimson underneath the poncho. I’ve had this turtleneck since either high school or early college, and it’s still one I wear every winter!
