TGIF, everyone! I reviewed pink lip colors on the blog a few months ago (here), and today it’s all about reds. As you can tell, I’m definitely a fan of Bare Minerals products! The great thing about red lipcolor is that it’s really season-less and there are tons of options out there for all skin tones. Stay tuned for a post featuring berry/wine hues later this fall! Today I’ll be reviewing the following shades, listed in order left to right from the above center photo:
- Clinique Chubby Stick in Chunky Cherry
- Bare Minerals Moxie lipgloss in High Roller
- Bare Minerals Moxie lipstick in Live it Up
- Bare Minerals Moxie lipstick in Call the Shots
- Bare Minerals Buttercream gloss in Cha-Ching Cherry
- Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso
Have a fabulous weekend and thanks so much for reading!
Clinique chubby stick in ‘Chunky Cherry’ is the sheerest of the reds for this feature. The balm has a glossy shine and leaves a sheer wash of color on lips–the perfect pick for anyone who wants to try a red lip but nothing too overpowering. This is one I wear often for work days since it’s a little more muted. The shade is a soft red with pink undertones; think of it as an amped-up version of your childhood Bonne Bell Lipsmacker!
Next up is another low-key red from Bare Minerals in the form of a gloss–‘High Roller.’ This is a summery shade that I would describe as a punchy pink-red. Again, not too over-the-top and a great option to make lips pop. This is one that would be flattering for all skin tones.
Bare Minerals Moxie lipstick in ‘Live it Up’ has been my favorite shade the last couple months. The vibrant red-orange shade is just right for summer and early fall. You can also view it worn in other posts here and here. I have to say Bare Minerals makes my favorite form of lipstick. It’s ultra-moisturizing, creamy, and melts onto lips within minutes after application for smooth, even coverage.
Another beauty from Bare Minerals: ‘Call the Shots.’ This lovely color can be categorized as a “true red,” meaning it has cool blue undertones. I found it to be a great option for fair-skinned ladies like myself who want their lips to convey that classic, Old Hollywood glamour. This deep red is the shade I will reach for the most from fall through winter. Find me wearing it on a previous blog post here.
Ulta recently debuted a new line of Bare Minerals Buttercream lipglosses, exclusive only to their stores. I L.O.V.E. them and want to collect every shade! So far I’ve picked up ‘Moody Berry’ and the one pictured here, ‘Cha-Ching Cherry.’ It’s described as “mulled wine” but I’d say it’s more of a true red without any purple tones. Anyone who wasn’t a fan of the tingly feeling lips get from the plumping properties found in traditional Bare Minerals Moxie glosses will be happy that this line does not have it. The formula also has deeper pigment than the older glosses so you can achieve more of a lipstick look. Highly recommend!
The final color I’ll be reviewing today is the most bold, fire engine red of them all: Stila all day liquid lipstick in ‘Beso.’ This is a show-stopping deep red with cool undertones. It’s the most unforgiving of the shades as far as application–one little mistake will have you running for the makeup remover to start again (or in my case, olive oil–it’s the perfect remover and also adds moisture to lips!) I also found that it came off easily on my skin and hands if I touched my mouth, so you have to be very careful eating and drinking, which can be kind of annoying. The formula definitely has staying power, but it’s also pretty dry. I exfoliate my lips before using so that they’re extra moisturized and will absorb the color more evenly. I think I’ll also try layering it with another lipstick next time and see if that helps improve the dryness. Basically, this highly-pigmented color is fantastic when you want your lips to take center stage, but it’s not the fastest or cleanest option as far as application. A little bit definitely goes a long way.
