Floral Spring Summer Winter

{ Friday Five: Kate Spade purse, Lavender lotion, Spring decor, Essie polish & Bare Minerals set }

April 11, 2014

2014-04-11_0001Hi everyone! I thought I’d try something new on the blog. Instead of posting an outfit on Friday, I’ll share some of the things I’m currently loving. I added a tab named “Friday Five” at the top of my page as an archive source so they’re easy to find if you’re searching for an item from a particular post. The items I feature will be in no certain order or always related to fashion, but simply what I’m enjoying lately. I hope you like it!

IMG_4761As I mentioned in my previous blog post, I picked up this lovely new bag last weekend during the Kate Spade friends & family sale. I have a fondness for lemon print and this is the perfect tote for spring and summer. The canvas is sturdy and durable and has a cute lemon inner lining as well. There are numerous pockets inside as well as an outside pocket. I’ve gotten to where all of my bags require one of these because it is the best spot to stash my phone for easy access. The bottom of the tote, although made of straw, has metal feet to help preserve the material. I’d say the only drawback for this will be keeping the light-colored canvas clean, but I’ll just be extra careful! Shop this tote here and here.

IMG_4772This is the current spring decor on my living room mantel. Admittedly, I decorated for Easter right after Valentine’s Day. As soon as mid-February arrives, I’m always ready for spring! With the extra-long winter we experienced this year, it’s been nice having cheerful decor to enjoy inside. I’ve purchased most of my spring decor items over the years at Home Goods, Michael’s, and Jo Ann Fabrics.

IMG_4780When I saw that Bath & Body Works debuted their Provence line, I had to try it. If it’s lavender scented or French-inspired, I’m sold. This is the best of both worlds–a sweet, lightly floral scent in super pretty packaging. I’d say it’s heavier on the honey than lavender, but it still smells wonderful. I like using a heavier body cream at night for extra moisturizing and regular lotion in the morning. I may have to try this in the sugar body scrub, too! Shop it here.

IMG_4811This is one of my favorite nail polishes and the one I’ve been sporting all week: “Madison Ave-hue” by Essie. It’s part of last year’s spring line, but still available here. This is the perfect hot pink/fuchsia with tiny silver flecks for subtle sparkle. It wears really well–I’ve had it on for a week and only have a few tiny chips.  I find that most polishes with a glitter element tend to last longer than creme formulas.

2014-04-11_0003I bought this Bare Minerals “More than Meets the Eye” makeup set from QVC when they had it as their TSV about a month ago. Bare Minerals is my favorite makeup brand and I love buying the kits because you get more bang for your buck that way. This set comes with the foundation shade of your choice, mineral veil, foundation primer, all-over face color, lipstick, cream eye shadow, and two brushes–all for less than $80! The mineral veil and primer are both great new formulas and only available at this time in the kit. The mineral veil is a powder form of the BB creams that have become very popular in the last few years. It’s a little heavier than the original mineral veil formula and is said to “diffuse the appearance of fine lines and pores and even out tone.” The primer comes in a light yellow “neutralizing” color instead of the traditional clear formula. I like that it’s SPF 30, whereas the original has none. The angled foundation brush is new and I really like it because it distributes the powder lightly over your face. The other complexion brush is so-so–I found it to be a little too light for powder distribution, so I’ll probably stick to my regular flawless face brush. Overall, this is a fabulous kit for the price and great for anyone looking to try Bare Minerals for the first time. Shop it here.
