How to Wear a Satin Trench Coat

By Monday, April 24, 2017 7

Happy Monday, everyone, and I hope you all had a great weekend! My week actually started yesterday, so today really feels like Tuesday to me (it’s going to take awhile to get used to the new weekend days here!) We spent some time exploring the local malls in Jordan, and the first thing we discovered is that the stores inside open pretty late on the weekend—we’re talking 2:00 P.M. (and we got there at 10:00!) Apparently right now those are ‘winter hours’ that last until mid-June (yeah, we questioned that, too). All of the shopping malls also have large grocery stores inside, which is mainly what we wanted to check out. We’ve been pleasantly surprised to find that Amman offers a lot more variety in food as far as international brands (including American goods, yay!) than we saw in Italy. You’ll definitely pay more for them, so I still order most of my dry goods from Amazon and Wal-Mart, but it’s still nice to know they’re there when we don’t feel like waiting for a shipment that can take a few weeks. After our mall exploration, we went on a dinner date at Sufra Restaurant, a place that offers a lot of Arabic dishes. We wandered by it last weekend and had a few of their appetizers, so this time we wanted the full dining experience.Date night was the perfect opportunity to wear my new satin trench I picked up recently from H&M. I fell in love with the ankle-grazing length and flowy fit, which gave me Middle Eastern vibes.
I dressed up this trench with a lace camisole, culottes, and heels, but you could easily go casual by throwing it over a tee and jeans.Just for fun, here’s what I had for dinner: mint lemonade (tastes like a nonalcoholic mojito—so refreshing!), fresh hummus with ‘khubz’ pita bread, and ‘Fattet jaj’, a traditional Jordanian dish with chicken, rice and a tangy yogurt sauce. We’ve read mixed reviews from locals that Sufra is a ‘touristy’ restaurant here in Amman, but we enjoyed our meal and would recommend it to anyone who happens to vacation here and wants to try some local dishes.
