Capri is known for its lemon-infused foods, including the most popular item, limoncello, as well as gelato, pasta dishes, and this delicious white chocolate layered torte. It’s safe to say I tried almost everything while we were there!

Now, time to share my top ten must-haves for any island vacation (besides swimwear!) If you’re an over-packer like me, there are probably two questions that always go through your mind when preparing for any trip: first, “What should I pack?” followed by “How am I going to fit all of it in my luggage?” Even though I could easily bring my entire wardrobe, I try to pack fewer things that are versatile and can easily mix and match with most of the other items in my suitcase.

Top Ten Must-Haves for Any Island Vacation

  1. Hats— These are by far my most important accessory for any summer vacay, and truth be told, every season. Not only do they block the sun, hats are the best way to cover up when your hair isn’t up to par, whether it be humidity (mine does NOT play well with this) or not having access to your usual products and styling tools.
  2. Large tote bag— This is definitely wise to bring for two reasons: with a large tote, you’ll be able to carry everything you may need when you’re out and about and away from your room for most of the day, PLUS it can double as extra luggage: I brought this Kate Spade tote and was able to fit 4 smaller purses inside of it for the trip!
  3. Breezy dresses— Dresses for dinner which double as swimsuit cover-ups? Yes, please! Light dresses are also easy to roll up in your suitcase and won’t take up much space.
  4. Statement sunnies— Sunglasses are almost always the final touch to my outfit, and since you’ll be wearing them nonstop for fun in the sun, bring a stylish pair (or two) which make you feel glamorous.
  5. Comfy sandals— On an island, it’s likely you will find yourself on foot a lot (particularly true for Capri), so making sure to have footwear that’s comfortable for more than an hour is a must!
  6. Statement sandals— When it’s time for dinner, nothing completes an outfit for a night out like a pair of pretty flats, heels, or wedges. Capri was FULL of gorgeous bejeweled sandals!
  7. Summer scarves/wraps— Light, airy layers are the perfect way to fight any chilly breezes you may feel while dining al fresco or going for a night stroll.
  8. Sunscreen— Don’t leave without it, and if you forget, buy some right away! The sun is usually more intense on most islands, so this makes it even more important to protect skin from damaging rays (and wrinkles!)
  9. Bronzer— Since I cover my face at all times in the sun, I always rely on bronzers to add some color to match the rest of my body. Sometimes I also like to pack a bronzing lotion to use on my legs and arms for an additional glow.
  10. Lipcolor— Bright lipstick is my go-to when I don’t have a lot of time for my usual makeup routine–a pop of color on lips and bronzer on cheeks will instantly brighten up your face. If you’re not a fan of lipstick, pack a balm or two to keep lips moisturized and protected from the sun.
